All summer we have had a fabulous time with our veggie garden. We went a bit overboard with zucchini plants and truly have them coming out our ears. Zucchini with every meal, breads in the freezer, 4 batches of relish, etc. We had rain for 3 weeks straight and didn't quite get out often enough to pick a few and they became quite large. Here is the first one picked.
Courtney treated it as if it was the largest fish he has ever caught. He practiced his pose for photos. :0)
However, that wasn't good enough. We decided since we have had such great success with this batch that we could grow another marrow (large zucchini) and save the seeds for next year. Well, they grew better than we thought. We were encouraged to enter them into the show to see if we could win the "heaviest marrow" competition. We waited until the very last second before taking them off the vine, weighed them on our bathroom scale and came to about 12 pounds a piece! We thought we might have a chance. Hmm. Which one will win?
We can proudly say that we have the WINNER of the Methven A&P Show heaviest marrow! Not only that, but we received second place as well, just in case the 1st one couldn't uphold its duties throughout the year. The prize was $5 for first and $3 for second. Well worth the entry and looking forward to more entries next year! Here are our prize possessions.
