On January 4, 2010 we held a very special dedication for Charlie on the top of Ute Pass in Silverthorne, CO. Ute Pass is one of our all time favourite spots in CO for incredible views and fall colours. Family and friends gathered at the top of the pass and took a short walk to one of our little secret places. Despite the cold temperatures, the weather was absolutely gorgeous!
We were lucky enough to have Jen's cousin Brad Meuli perform the service for us. He is the CEO of the Denver Rescue Mission. We thank him for taking time out of his busy holiday schedule so that he could be a part of Charlie's special day.
Charlie's godparents are very dear and wonderful friends of ours. Molly Midgley has been a childhood friend of mine forever. Our mothers were sorority sisters and Molly and I think we were meant to be sisters too. We have experienced many fun times together and have some incredible memories of travels with families. Hopefully Molly can pass on her love of life and travel to Charlie. She is awesome.
Dan Hogan and John Mingus are great fishing and hunting buddies of Courtney's. John and Courtney guided in Alaska together. Courtney has always looked up to John's passion for life, his inquisitive ways, and his love for nature. Dan is a model father, friend and positive person. We are thrilled to have these three special people in our lives and look forward to having them help to guide Charlie.
About 30 family and friends were there to witness this event. It was wonderful being able to share our favourite spot with them and have them be a part of Charlie's big day.
After the dedication we all went back to The Gardner's house in Silverthorne to have a celebration. Molly Midgley and family had some water blessed by their pastor and brought it to the party. Each child was able to "bless" Charlie and wish him well. A few blessings that touched our hearts were "I hope you have a wonderful childhood like I have." "May you always have a sense of humour like your dad." "May you have a happy new year." "I hope you have more hair than your dad does."
