Preschool!!!

Look out Methven Preschool, here comes Charlie!  With only one preschool in our town, the wait list is incredible.  Charlie has been on the list for just over a year, listed as "Baby Wiedel".  Luckily they had a look at their registrations and had a few openings.  We were able to get him into school for full days on M,T,W.
We started the process off by doing an hour and a half for 3 consecutive days.  We think that being home in the States over the holidays was great training for the social aspects of preschool, as he was not worried about it at all.
He quickly learned how to discover new toys and began sitting up on his own right after having been there one day!  They have an incredible curriculum that they follow, even for the under 2s.  Exploration is the foundational program, which we all know he is very good at already.
The following week we tried half days.  He continued to explore and got a bit too involved as he refused to sleep a wink!  Mum got called all three days to pick him up about an hour early as he was red in the face with anger whenever they tried to put him to bed.  We are all trying to pull things out of our bag of tricks in order to help him be successful in all aspects of school.

Charlie comes home daily with sand, paint, food, and who knows what else all over his face.  His nappies have been quite interesting even 3-4 days later.  Doesn't all that sand rub?
As you can see, he is thoroughly enjoying himself at his new school.  This week we went on to full days (8-5ish).  We took in one of his blankets for his bed and it worked like a charm.  Still not his long naps that we are used to at home, but not fighting the process.  On Wednesday of this week he was the first to arrive and the last to leave (we got called to come wake him up as they were getting ready to close).  Mum and Dad felt a bit badly about the long hours, but the smile on his face says it all.

He continues to pull people in with his cute, sly looks.  He has all of his teachers wrapped.  It won't be long until he is crawling.  They work on his movement skills daily.
At the end of the day, we know that he is in GREAT hands and he is beginning to settle in and set up his own routine.
It is Daddy Day Care on Thursday and Friday.  Dad is looking forward to "man time" with his son and Ernie.  I think fishing is on the agenda for day one.

Life is great for all of the Wiedels here.  We hope all of you are happy and healthy as well.  Please keep in touch.  Love to all.
